The Best Seiko Watches from Baselworld 2016

Seiko watches released their new collection in Baselworld some months ago and today we are looking at two of the standout models from this legendary Japanese watchmaker. Without a doubt, Seiko is an innovator in the game, and these new watches illustrate this to great effect.

The Grand Seiko Spring Drive Black Ceramic Limited Series

This collection comes crafted in black titanium and ceramic. This series features 4 models – 2 with a chronograph, and 2 with a GMT complication. The circular case is comprised of 5 parts that come together in perfect harmony. All models carry a screw locked crown, which helps maintain the 100 meters (10 Bar) water resistance. The case dimensions on these timepieces come in at 46.4mm for the diameter, and with a case height of 16.1mm for the chrono version, and 15mm for the GMT iterations.
The case backs are all exhibition styled sapphire crystal, revealing the decorated movements. The movements used are all self-winding mechanical, equipped with a manual winding mechanism. The power reserve stands at 72 hours. On the scale of accuracy, these watches are extremely precise. Even the most accurate timepieces given the coveted COSC certification only need to have a daily variance of -5/+7 seconds. In contrast, the Black Ceramic Limited series watches are accurate to +/- 0.5 seconds per day or +/- 10 seconds per month. I think this is truly impressive.
The watches come on crocodile leather with a triple deployant clasp. Apart from this, these watches are made to withstand 4,800 A/m from electromagnetism. As the name suggests, these watches are all limited in their production. The SBGC017 is limited to 600 pieces; while the SBGC015, SBGE037, and 039 are limited to 500 pieces each.

The Grand Seiko Spring Drive 8 Day Power Reserve

New from the Micro Artist Studio in Shiojiri in the Nagano prefecture of central Japan, comes this breathtaking timepiece – the Spring Drive 8 Day Power Reserve (ref # SBGD001). To start things off, this model is made from 950 platinum, and polished to an amazing luster using the Zaratsu technique. The case is fitted with two sapphire crystals – one over the dial, and the other showcasing the movement. Both crystals are anti-reflective ensuring a clean view at all times. The case diameter is 43mm, and the case thickness is 13.2mm. I have always thought that for dress watches, these dimensions are ideal. Like the watches above, this model also has a water resistance label of 100 meters, and is protected against electromagnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m.
The simplicity of the dial is in contrast to the complexity of the movement powering this watch. The movement caliber 9R01 is manual wound, and boasts a power reserve of 192 hours or 8 days. The movement also features a triple barrel system unlike many other timepieces that only have a double or single barrel system. This spectacular timepiece is also accurate to +/- 0.5 seconds per day. This horological marvel is available for around 60,000 Euro. vedere di piu Swiss Rolex e Chopard Classic Racing
